Enoki mushrooms are called Jin Zhen Gu (金针菇) in China, which literally means golden needle mushrooms. These mushrooms are easily recognizable by their long, slender stems and small, white caps. They have a mild, slightly sweet flavor and a crunchy texture that holds up well in various cooking methods, such as soup, stir fry, stew and steamed dishes. Enoki mushrooms are not only delicious but also packed with nutritional benefits. They are low in calories, rich in vitamins B and D, and provide a good amount of fiber and antioxidants. Ingredients

It only takes a few simple pantry ingredients to make steamed enoki mushrooms. When you’re ready to cook, your table should have:

  • Enoki mushrooms
  • Sugar and salt
  • Minced garlic
  • Cut dried chili peppers
  • Light soy sauce
  • Sliced green onion
  • Sesame oil

This dish uses dried chili peppers to add aroma to the oil but it does not make the dish spicy. If you prefer a spicier dish, you can use one to two fresh bird’s eye chilis (sliced) instead of the dried chili peppers.
